Hey everyone,

How many of these http://www.reefonline.com.au/shop/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=213 130W lamps would I need to adequaetly cover a meter long tank. I think that it would be two as they are so bright.

Also, should i mount them vertically or horizontally?

PS: you have to enlarge the picture on the site to see the proportions correctly. They squashed it.

Cheers
Matt

If you're growing plants you'll need 2-3 watts per gallon.

If its a fish only tank, I dont think you would need much more than one of those.

Hi Matt,

What are the dims of your tank ?

If you have a 4ft tank you will need 2 of the lamps (each lamp covers 2ft).
You can contact reefonline they are helpful in answering any questions.

Also 2 lamps at 130w = 260watts, on a 4ft tank which is about 50-55gals.
That works out to be 4-5watts per gallon.

At that wattage I would suggest ferts and co2, also be prepared to trim plants 2 times a week.

I had 4 x 4ft fluros = 150watts or 3 watts per gallon, and I had to dose ferts daily, plus trim plants every 2-3 days.

My tank is going to be 1m by 1/2m by 1/2m. It is going to be a mainly a plant tank with co2 and ferts.

Thanks for the replies

Matt,

At the size our tank is about 66gal.

So 260watts is about 4watts per gallon, you will be able to grow anything.

All the best with the tank.

(If you get the PC's set up on tank send some pic's please)

Thanks Rgoganj & Bronx,

I am probably going to put them in a d.i.y hood with air tight trickle filter arrangement. Once ive got it running I will surely post some picciys.

Cheers
Matt
