Hi Guys,

Hoping there are reptile guru here.
Just found this guy in the garden this morning?
Do you know what is it?

Is it common here or its someone pet that end up in my garden?
Do you need a licence to keep it? is it the calm type or will bite your hand off?

hey stonx , it is very common , blue tongue lizard,
they are good for the garden will keep the snails down ,just take care not to put snail bates down, they can be kept as pets , but in most states of Austraila you need a licence, they will bite but mostly it is all bluff , you can just pick them up it will stop hissing and opening its mouth,
they are cool to have around, they are live barers too so you couls end up with a whole family if there is any others around
hope that help-ed

they can be very cranky, they love snails (a really good reason not to use snail bait in your yard if you have blueys there).. As kids, we always used to find them under the hydranga bush..chomping away at the snails. they like eggs and strawberries too..

I am pretty sure you would need a permit to keep a bluey because they are a native.

you need a reptile kepers licence, you are not allowed to take from the wild (ie your garden) you have to buy 1 from a breeder.

its an eastern blue tounge lizard, leave it be in your back yard it will do wonders for your snail population.

You can also feed him some tin can peaches, not to many :) if you feel like you need to give it some food . Blue tounges eat nearly anything !

Oh soooooooo cute and where it should be, in the garden running around without any restrictions at all. I once saw someone who had put a cat collar on one and was walking it around, it made me very sad. Heard a tale once and I am not sure if it is true but it's said where there are blueys there are no snakes.
