Hi

just wonder, why are you using the sand substrate rather than using the gravel? is there any benefit for all types of Discus or just the Wild one ?

Thanks

Just beautifull heckels.
Seems to me they are Nhamunda heckels.

To JT
Discus eat sand and needs sand to help them clean digestive system.

Have come back to discus after a lapse of over twenty years. Used to see fish ike that in the 80's but even then they were not common. Most Heckels I see these days only have dull, partial striations. Those in your tank are first class. Well done!

I like the colour of the sand in your tank, more natural looking than white, although I like that too. You said it is just normal sand. So if I go to my local gardening supplies and just get sandpit sand will that be ok? I currently have a bb but the glass on the bottom is getting alge spots so I need to cover it.

thats great. Do you wash it the same way you would wash the gravel?

Leanne,

I get a bucket and half/ 3/4 fill it with sand, then get a garden hose and push it to the bottom of the sand filled bucket and turn on the water. Then stir it around with your hand and let it overflow as you stir until the water runs clean, hey presto! ready to use.
