Hi there,

I've got 2 discus that keep "kissing" (for want of a better word) a piece of vertical driftwood. I don't know if they're a pair, but is kissing aquarium ornaments normal discus behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

I hope they're a pair, i've never bred discus before.

Chris.

I think it's the sign....have they acting more aggrasively toward other fish that swim near that piece of driftwood??

They're actually both (but in particular one of them) aggressive to all the other discus in the tank, both near or far from the driftwood.

But I think you might be right, no other discus has gone to that side of the tank.

i think it sounds more like asserting a little dominants than breeding....

Hard too tell, i posted a video on here a while ago of a male and female doing the kissing thing. It looks like they are more fighting and i do believe it was more too do with dominance.

But now this pair have spawned several times and even raised young..

hi there
just a quick update.
The fish have layed eggs.
Now I just got to hope that the other community fish don't eat them.

Any parental tips?

I would love to take out the other fish, but I can only fit so many fish into a 2foot hospital tank.

Do i need to worry about Neon Tetras and other Discus fish from eating the babies? How about Gourami's and Guppies? Oh yeah, and 1 Algae Eater. Plus 6 smallish Clown Loaches.

If it's their first time laying eggs...don't worry about other fish....the parents will finish their eggs before other fish :-)

Hmmmz... some of the eggs have turned white. Some have some fungus. But most are still grey/black. Is that a good sign?

I just stumbled on this thread, in search of some answers on two of my discus's behaviour.....
I just introduced a red turq to my tank the other day and my pearl pigeon Russell has taken a real interest in her...
They both keep 'kissing' my filter tube and shaking back and forth at each other. I dont think its territorial because they wont leave each others side. And if my blue turq comes anywhere near Russell will chase him off. I hope I get eggies as well! :D

thanks! :)

Will do. Just gotta wait for them to grow bit bigger. My camera has a hard time focussing on the small dots. But will try and post something up within the next day or so.

I just hope they don't become fish food for other fish. I wish I had another tank to put all the other fish.

alas :(
the Lord giveth, and the stupidity of man taketh away.

All the young fry are gone. Assumed to have become fish food for other fish.

I am off to look for another tank... too little... too late.

:( ....

.... at least I know I have a pair I guess :)
