I just got a 48" X 18" X 20" (LXWXH) tank about 230L I was wondering how many watts of lighting I will need to keep java fern, java moss and perhaps anubias?

All of these plants are considered low light and will be fine at least 1wpg of lighting.

A double 4' fluro with 6500k, 10,000k bulbs or a mix should do it.

If you’re looking for good quality fluro's with the right colour temperature without the pet shop prices, try NEC's TRI Phosphorus 5000K 37W T8's they have a Lumen output of 3855. They cost around $A5.00 so you can replace em like you should every six months with out breaking the bank.
I have 2 of these above a 48 X 24 X 24 ( 433l ) planted tank, thought I might be a bit light on but plants have been thriving for the last twelve months.

you could also try HPM's Daylight 36W Tri phosphorus Colour temp of 6500k and lumen output of 2700 these are around $A4.00.

You should find these at any stratco hardware store.

I just bought one of those nec lights from bunnings this morning put it on and it makes the tank look really yellow compared to my power gro i had on there before is this the effect your suppose to get. Im wanted a light that shows the colour of my fish more than a light for my plants as I dont have a lot of plants.
