you need to boil the wood

a) it get out most the tannins

B) it gets out most the air that makes it float

C) it gets rid of all the pathogens

be careful it does not leach any toxins into your tank

you may need to boil it 3 - 5 times before putting it in!

You found it at the golf course? Greenkeepers spray a lot so be careful if that's the case.

get a large 44 gallon drum and a fire

easy to boil large bits of wood that way

just don't make the fire a bon-fire, smaller is best

also be careful about the greenkeepers chemicals, they may harm
