1x Happy discus owner.

The Melons are very clean, with only a little peppering on the fins.

Very nice, I especially like that Male Golden Pigeon.

I also like that intricately planted tank in the third pic. The melons show up well against it.

Thanks all for the comments.

All four discus were from Rod Lewis (www.lewisdiscus.com). He had a few golden pigeons left if anyone is interested. I think I also saw another Red Melon pair, but they may have been Rod's personal breeding stock. I don't expect them to last long as they're priced very well.

They have settled nicely by the look of things Chris, glad you are happy with them.

That other pair of melons you saw are already sold.

They have settled nicely by the look of things Chris, glad you are happy with them. Thanks Rod. They settled in very well. They didn't even splash taking them out of the bags.

That other pair of melons you saw are already sold.I thought they woundn't last long, given the quality and price.

Jim,

Sorry mate, i didn't see your post until i was back from the show. I did take a boxful of fish with me but they were all preordered.

Annie,

If you want some superb red fish give Cary Strong from Great lakes discus a call, he imports from the same guy i do and you will not be dissapointed with the quality

Nick,

Those melons were Aussie bred, not imports.

Mtchey,

I have some red melons atm, imports from Roy Khoo in Singapore. High body and fins and simply awesome discus. No color enhancers here so you will have to wait a bit until they grow to get color like chris' melons . They are only $75 each for about 7cm body size.

Regards

Rod

Thats a shame Annie. Thats something i have noticed in the USA is how expensive shipping is compared to here. A lot of aussies complain about shipping costs here but really it is very reasonable. we only $55 for the first box then about $25 for each box after compared to around $70 US ($93 aus) for a box of fish. It sounds crazy really as we have similar size countries etc.

I totally agree...it stinks. for a fish the would cost me 25-50 here , if I had it shipped, I would be looking up ward of close to $150-$200 for a Discus shipment.

The male Golden pigeon and female Red Melon pair (see first post) bred last night. I've got about 30 eggs on the centre support of the air filter. They surprised me breeding so soon. I hadn't had time to get a pot or cone organised for them.

Happy happy joy joy. :D

Edit: As I was typing this, I noticed one of the other red melons cleaning a branch ready for a clump of eggs. That liquid Viagra I put in the tanks must finally be taking effect.

Thats great Chris, they were breeding like rabbits here and by the sounds of it they will for you too. Good work mate!! If you can remember that really nice golden pb you bought from wetpets that fish was a red melon x golden pb from the exact same linage as your pair, they will produce some very awesome discus.

I'm as surprised as anyone, breeding after only a week or so in a new tank. I'm hopeful they'll keep them, but won't be too upset if they turn them into a midnight snack.

I'm also trying something special in that tank - a floating mat of Wisteria. The pair seem to have taken to it pretty well. I think it gives them a sense of security, as they are more mobile in the tank since I put it in.

If the fry turn out anywhere as nice as that, I'll be wrapped.
