Past 2 days Ive notice a couple of my plecos have stopped hiding in their caves.

They didnt look very energetic, fins slightly frayed along the edges and were not behaving normally. No gasping but they werent territorial or frightined by my movements as they noramlly would swim off for cover and hide should my hand be in the tank.

I did a 30% water change the night before and this morning i noticed one pleco had a few tiny red spots on the tail. I suspected bacterial infection and removed carbon and dosed with myxazin.

Ive come back from work and both plecos tails have flared up bright red and swollen in the belly. One is now dead

Anyone have any ideas? Advice?

Internal bacterial infection caused by not having enough fresh vegetables in their diet and not enough or the wrong type of driftwood in their tank.
Do a 50% WC then Treat immediately with a double dose of Octozin for 3 days then another 50% WC ...then repeat.
I'm afraid this type of thing is not usually curable at this late stage.
