With any catfish there will be the debate of them attaching too the discus too chew on their slime coat.

Personally i have not seen this happen, but i have read of it happening alot. In the end its your choice, i keep pepp bn's in all my discus tanks with no worries.

I just dont want too say yeah go for it and then you disucs has a nice love bite on its side.

Scott.

Theres no debate at all bud, its fact. Ive actually had it happen in my tanks. Its not the bristle nose variety but infact the other type that do it.

Its name slips my mind but its very common in the LFS. All bright orange in colour and flys about non stop. They love that protien slime !

Jaiofspam - crazy set up mate cant wait to see your discus!!

whats your electricity bill like?

heheh

Hi Jaio and welcome to the forum. I have a talking catfish in with my discus. He minds his own business and never bothers the discus. Plecos can be a problem but individuals vary. In that same (8 foot) tank I have 2 plecos and they leave the discus alone, but I still watch them carefully for any sign problems. I have had other plecos that were a real problem with the discus and had to be moved to another tank. As I said, individuals vary.

From my research I finding the same about plecos. It is really a hit and miss affair whether or not your pleco is going to take a liking to the slime coat of your discus. Some recommend the smaller ones, such as the clown, royal or zebra pleco. Both of which dont seem to be readily available in Australia, maybe better luck in the states ?

Maybe a better choice wold be Whiptail catfish (Sturisoma & Rineloricaria species) ?
