So I finally got my 5ft tank all sorted out (had a few issues :P) and a few days ago started building a hood for it with my old man. Using 12mm Marine Ply. It will have a duel fluro 4ft light mounted in it also. Here are a few pics of what we have done so far. It is going to have 2 hinged lids at the front also, and painted the same colour (brown) as stand. My old man comes in very handy sometimes :P (really good with electronics and handy man stuff).

Marine ply is pretty expensive mate :P $125 for a 1.2x2 meter sheet 12mm thick. Except dad already had it so nothing out of my pocket. It's going to be painted a brown colour. As you will see maybe later today :P

Thanks :) heres a few more photos, all thats left now is attaching a power chord to the light, mounting it under the hood and drilling 2 holes in the top of the hood for the switches (1 switch for each globe). Didn't clean some of the sawdust off in some pics.

Awsome. You and dad have done a great job Bundy. Looks very professional.

And the hoods I've seen in shops are made of pine, nothing as classy as marine ply. So well done.

Did you cover the top with a glass or covered the tubes?

also just had a thought too, i just noticed u have no reflectors.
if u paint the inside "flat white" u will get better reflection.
just a suggestion...
