Firstly apologies for the dogdy photo. I'm like fish... not cameras.

I'm a discus newbie and bought this fish from a dodgy backyard guy cause it was pretty :) It is probably some cross-bred mongrel thing with hideous faults to all of you discus pros, but I was just wondering if anyone could confirm that is has some sort snakeskin lineage? All of the other snakeskins I've seen have a lot tighter pattern. This guy also has quiet a few black speckles in case you can't see on his top half, with some faint lines.

It's definitely a pigeon due to the black speckles (peppering).

If it was a snakeskin, you would be able to count 16 bars on the body. That little fish appears to have 9 bars, so that makes him a pigeon blood.

Breeders give their fish all sorts of names, and different breeders will have several names for the same type of fish. That's just the nature of the game.

What you have there is a nice little pigeon blood, with good markings and a lovely red eye.

Feed him well and he will grow into a lovely fish.
